Qzip.net Wireless Broadband
has grown out out of the demands of a community
that needed high speed Internet. The
Timbergreen subdivision located in the southwest
corner of Montgomery County, Texas was too far for DSL
coverage and overlooked by the small cable
company that services the area. Harry
Gallagher the president of Qzip.net, Inc. and a
resident of Timbergreen decided it was time to
provide the much needed service to the
community. After months of research and
product testing Qzip.net has gone live with its new product offering.
We are currently scheduling installations in the
Timbergreen subdivision. (Sign

Installation:
The rooftop antenna requires line of site or
as close to it as possible to the main tower.
Initially a site survey will be done to
determine the feasibility of acquiring a good
signal. This will involve a technician
climbing on your roof to visually check for line
of site and testing with an actual CPE (Customer
Premise Equipment) and laptop computer.
once an ideal location for the antenna is
determined we will ask where you would like the
signal to come into the house. All that
will be required is an electrical outlet with a
surge protected power strip at the
inside termination point so we can power the
equipment using POE (Power Over Ethernet).
We will be providing a single IP address
for your use, the installation includes
configuring one (1) PC to browse the Internet, any
additional work such as installing and configuring a multi
PC router will be billed at our regular rate of $95.00 per
hour. We can also run additional cables to other rooms
or PCs for $110.00 per drop.

Actual rooftop antenna 9" x 9"
x 2" pole or eave mounted.
Some questions and
answers about Qzip.net wireless broadband.
Q. Does Qzip.net Wireless
Broadband support VPN
A. Yes Wireless Broadband
performs comparably to DSL and Cable it is not
restricted like satellite broadband, here’s why.
- Virtual private networks require a
high-bandwidth, low-latency network to
function efficiently. Satellite Internet
services normally suffer very high latencies
due to the long distance satellite signals
must travel. Wireless does not have that
problem as we are sending the signal very
short distances.
- Satellite Internet also tends to support low
upstream bandwidth. Specifically, satellite
bandwidth for uploads is comparable to that
of dial-up Internet service. VPN’S demand
high bandwidth for both uploads and
downloads; wireless is not limited to
upstream constraints so bandwidth in both
directions is more than adequate.
Q. Is there a FAP (Fair
Access Policy) Limit?
A. No, but we will be
utilizing something call CBQ (Class-Based
Queuing). Basically what this does is allow us
to limit the bandwidth to any given client thus
allowing for a fair and equitable sharing of
bandwidth. During large downloads you will
notice that your bandwidth is throttled back
after a short period of time. Unlike satellite
we will never limit your download to less than
50% of your agreed maximum.
Q. Will there be bandwidth
sharing problems?
A. No not as long as the
service is not abused. We have been in the ISP
business for over 7 years and can very closely
monitor traffic. We will be adding bandwidth as
the system requires it, being a commercial ISP
allows us to have greater control over this
issue. We will be asking our clients to limit
their use of Peer-to-Peer programs such as Kazaa,
BitTorrent and many others. These Peer-to-Peer
file sharing programs are the leading cause of
bandwidth congestion today. If anyone is found
to be abusing this policy (some use is
acceptable) we will take actions to shutdown
ports to limit this activity.
Q. Will this work if I have
wireless phones?
A. Yes our WiFi Radio’s
are high powered and directional. We utilize
channels 1, 6 and 11 depending on where you are
located. Since the antenna is located on your
roof it is very unlikely that the signal from
your phone will interfere at all. If you
suspect that your Phone is causing interference
you can change its channel to one not used by
us.
Q. Will this include a
static IP?
A. Yes we will be providing
a fixed Public IP address to each of our
clients.
Q. How secure is this
system?
A. We utilize the latest in
wireless security to ensure that the Qzip.net
network is secure. One thing our clients need
to be aware of is that we are providing them
public access to the Internet; they are going to
be responsible for their own security. Even
though they will be behind a firewall we will
not be blocking any traffic to or from their
locations. We strongly recommend they purchase
an inexpensive DSL/Cable/Firewall router for
their home; we will provide tech support in
setting that up and can even provide one for a
small fee.
Q. Are there any equipment
costs?
A. No since Qzip.net
retains ownership of the equipment we will carry
the cost.
Q. Is there a self install
option?
A. No not at the present
time.
